Robert Wayne & James Monroe, descendants of Anderson Mayo and David L Hedick, were 4th generation Brooksvillians. Their Great Great Grandfather, Anderson Mayo came to Hernando County in 1851 and settled on what is now known as Snow Hill, just north of Chinsegut Hill. Caryl’s family also pioneered south with Mayo and Ederington families at the same time. Wayne and Monroe grew up in downtown Brooksville at 218 S Broad Street, and attended Hernando High School where they played football. Wayne went on to a career with NASA and then returned to Brooksville to open a Real Estate company. Monroe moved to Gainesville as an adult, working for the University of Florida in the plants and grounds department. Both are buried with family, generations before and after, at Lake Lindsey Cemetery.
Carol McKeown Pendergast was, like Wayne and Monroe, a descendant of the families that pioneered to Hernando County in 1951.
